Another project for my grad class…to produce a podcast. I wanted my podcast to be about something that I really had interest in, something that made me passionate. After thinking it over, I came up with my topic for my podcast, The Lost Art of Photography.
I’ve been in art my entire life. From painting to drawing to metalsmithing and ceramics, I’ve done almost every medium out there. Its something about creating something from nothing that I love. My love of all art is what brought me into my passion of photography. The basic elements of design tie into creating a good composition, whether it be for a painting, drawing or even a photograph. Understanding the art behind it is what has helped me to become a better photographer.
What fires me up more than anything is seeing the over saturation of photographers out there because of the idea that any stay-at-home mom with a DSLR camera can be a “professional” photographer just bc they own a DSLR. It happens all the time. They decide they want a hobby and that they would love to make money from it. They buy a nice camera, take a few pictures of their kids and they decide to start a business from it. My problem is, these people don’t understand the art behind taking a good picture. They don’t know what it means to add depth of field to their pictures, etc. The problem starts when they start booking clients bc of their cheaper prices. The gullible clients that also don’t understand the art behind a good picture books them and so on.
Enough rambling, I could go on more, but why not just have you listen to my podcast titled “The Lost Art of Photography” with special guest Jeni Fehr, owner of JeniFotos.
